The Grays Harbor County Fair wrapped up on Sunday and I’m so proud to announce that the Room Sixers had TWO big winners. Colton and his lionhead rabbit, Harry, won Best In Breed and Cassidy won Best In Show for a photo she took on our beach field trip in May. She also won four 2nd place ribbons and a 1st place ribbon for the other five photos she entered. CONGRATULATIONS GUYS! We’re so proud for you.
My Computer is acting up (AGAIN!) so I’m having trouble posting Cassidy’s photos, but as soon as I get the bugs worked out I’ll post her winning pics.

Songs about A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Gothic Archies.
Mr. Snicket recommends that you NOT click on the link above. The songs heard in that small spot of the internet are simply too tragic to bear. Mr. Snicket does not wish to be responsible for anyone drowning in a lake of their own tears.
Might we suggest the songs of the Happy Little Elf instead?

DUDE! I just got an email from Harry and the Potters announcing their upcoming concert tour. They will be part of the Unlimited Enthusiasm Expo Tour 08 on July 22 at the Capitol Theatre in Olympia!
What is the Unlimited Enthusiasm Expo Tour 08?? According to the offical website, it’s this:
“Expect a show filled with kids and adults, parents and teenagers, all collectively losing their minds in a joyous outpouring of geeky summer fun. This will be the ultimate experience in participatory concerts with volunteers for each show on hand to mix Kool-aid and Taang and make peanut butter and jelly and grilled cheese sandwiches. There will be name-tags! Voter registrations! Awesome wizards! Giant monsters! Cool videos! Rock and roll aerobics! Inflatable monkeys! Dancing sock puppets! A rock and roll tour can be whatever we want, so long as we have one thing: Unlimited Enthusiasm.”
Awesome! I love grilled cheese! I love sock puppets! I, uh….support voter registration! I also seriously love me some Harry and the Potters. Songs about books - how can you not love that?? My favorite song is “Save Ginny Weasley.” (You can hear a sample of it HERE.) I missed their concert last summer at the Olympia Library, but I heard it was excellent. I can’t wait to go this year!
The Expo features the DIY Camp Jump & Yell Circus and performances by Harry and the Potters, Math the Band, and Uncle Monsterface. Tickets are $10. You can find more info at the Olympia Film Society website HERE. (Just click the calendar to July.)
Tuesday July 22. 6:30p.m. Be there or be a muggle.

Hey, we added some new links over on the right in the “Read” category. One of the links is for Diary of a Wimpy Kid, which our class loves. While visiting the site, Ms. Carossino noticed that Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw (Book THREE!) will be released on January 17, 2009. Plus, there’s also a Diary of a Wimpy Do-It-Yourself Book coming out this fall. Yay!
(Psst! You can also visit the Wimpy Kid blog by clicking HERE.)

Think you have what it takes to be a Dragon Rider? The publisher of Eragon and Eldest has created a Dragon Rider summer challenge leading up to the release of Brinsingr on September 20th. Sign up at http://www.vroengardacademy.com/ to join the ranks of the Riders. Complete at least one of the Rider trials and you’ll be entered in a drawing to win a free two-day trip to Montana to meet author Christopher Paolini. You’ll also be eligible for the weekly sweepstakes just by signing up. You can win cool prizes like t-shirts, dvds, and books – inlcuding autographed copies of all three books in the Inheritence Series. (And yes, you read it right: all three books. The last week of the sweepstakes they’re giving away a signed copy of Brisingr!)If that doesn’t keep you busy enough this summer you can also check out the fun at http://www.alagaesia.com/ (the official Inheritence Series website) and http://www.shurtugal.com/.
Happy Reading!
PS: According to the Alagaesia.com Eragon Character poll, I am Saphira!:
“You are most like SAPHIRA
Like the majestic dragon, Saphira, you are brave and ferocious in battle but also deep in ancient wisdom. You think before flying headfirst into battle. You prefer the solitude of the wilderness to the populated cities of Alagaesia.”

Things are pretty hush-hush around here lately, so we haven’t been blogging much. We’re busy working on a super top-secret project and we can’t post any details.
We can tell you that today we watched the school play. Payton, Jeremiah, Asa, and Kaila were in it and they did a great job! We were also blown away by Izzy Cristelli as Dorthy Gale. As Chase said, “that girl can sing!” We can’t wait to see it again with the green cast on Thursday. (Hmmm….since it’s the “green” cast, does that mean it will be more sympathetic to the Wicked Witch? Or do they just plan to recycle the sets when they’re done?)
So that’s all we can tell you about what we’ve been up to. Sorry to keep you in suspense, but like we said: it’s a secret.
Well, ok…we guess we can give you one tiny hint. Here’s a picture of us working on our project:
Hee!

His loafers were weejuns
his chinos were black
with a cute little buckle
that fastened in back
From the very first glance,
I dreamed of romance,
with Braaaaaad….
-Grease 2 (1982)
A big thanks to Ranger Brad for guiding our field trip yesterday at Washaway Beach.
You made quite an impression, sir.

We took a science field trip to Washaway Beach today. This is my favorite photo from the trip. It was taken by Cassidy. I think it’s beautiful.
Cassidy should take photos for us more often. She has a talent for photographing people. Every portrait she took today had a great expression. Her photos really bring out the personality of her subjects. She did a much better job than I did, and I took about 200 more photos.
We’ll post more photos from the beach once we sort through them all. In the mean time, here are a few more of Cassidy’s portraits. (Click on them to see a larger view.)
PS: The entry title is from the French song, La Mer, which was later rewritten in English as Beyond the Sea. I like Bobby Darin’s English version, but I think the French version is pure magic. I’ve been trying to learn how to sing it in the original French, but this is the only line I’ve mastered so far.
You can find a translation of the French lyrics as well as the English version HERE. You can also listen to a sample of Charles Trenet singing La Mer by clicking on the link at the bottom of THIS page.

We’ve begun adding our biographies to the ABOUT page. It’s a work in progress and we still need to get our self-portraits finished (only Ms. Carossino’s is up so far), but it’s the place to go if you want to know more about us. Go check it out.

Luna, Mena, Julia, Chase, and I have been working on our Double Dutch for the whole school year. Luna, with the maximum amount of jumps, did 319. Chase did 18, Mena has done 100 jumps. And Cassidy, me, did 23, and Julia did 46 something. We enjoy jumping. Well, we enjoy being active.
PS: I’m so excited! Sumer Break is in 12 days! Me and my best friend Kyla are going to camp!

I’m Cassidy and I am on Payton and kaila’s soccer team. We played our game in bishop, of course, we won. From that game, we didn’t loose one game!!! Were undefeated! Our team name is the green rockets. The field we played on was a field full of poop!! There was dog and bird poop on every inch of the field!!! During warm ups, I ran into my teammate and I fell!! It was disgusting so much!!!! Then, during the game, a girl on the other team pushed me down!!! Again, it was disgusting in many ways. At least the seasons other. We didn’t loose any game so yeah, it was tiring.

…because NO ONE has written a review of the Rainiers game yet, even though the field trip was 10 DAYS AGO.
Perhaps they are all still in a junk-food coma?
